Seth Towns Waiving Eligibility Of assistant coaching position at harvard to re-join roster for “one last ride”

CAMBRIDGE—

Coming off his 8th year of college basketball, Seth Towns thought he was finally ready to hang up the jersey and start a new chapter in his life as an assistant coach at Harvard, returning to the first stop in his tumultuous career. However, as it tuns out the game wasn’t done with him just yet. After just two weeks back on campus, Towns informed the NCAA of his intention to exercise his 9th and final year of eligibility to suit up one last time for the Crimson.

“It just felt wrong sitting on the sidelines during drills, like I was itching to get back out there and compete,” said the 26 year-old. “When Coach blew the whistle and said it was time for suicides, I hopped right up off the bench without even thinking and got in line with the rest of the roster; needless to say it was pretty embarrassing.”

That slip of the mind got Towns to thinking, though. After a few days of introspection, he approached head coach Tommy Amaker with the surprising request of joining the roster as a student-athlete for the 24-25 season. Said Amaker, “Initially, I was shocked by what he had to say. However, he was adamant that this was the best way he would be able to bring value to the team. Plus, who am I to get in the way of a young man’s dreams?”

With the loss of Malik Mack to Georgetown in the offseason, this announcement comes as welcome news to Harvard fans all across greater Boston Exurbia. The Crimson have not earned an NCAA Tournament berth since 2015, but Seth Towns aims to break that drought with his contributions both off and on the court this year.
